Psychotherapy
Everyone experiences mental and emotional difficulties. We face unforeseen challenges, battle unsettling emotions, and confront sadness that doesn’t seem to lift. Sometimes these problematic emotions lead to short tempers, impulsivity, improper boundary setting, negative self-talk, or other unwanted behaviors. When these symptoms interfere with your daily functioning, it’s time. It’s time to take control and learn skills that will empower you to have inner peace, greater resilience, and a renewed sense of hope.

Tsoghig Marieann Hekimian, LCSW-C, LICSW
Hi, my name is Tsoghig Marieann Hekimian (pronounced Tso-heeg Maryann Heck-eem-ian, I go by Marieann), and I am an anti-racist mental health therapist. I received a Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore where I specialized in clinical social work and participated in a fellowship focused on treating mental illness in adolescents. Prior to starting my private practice, I worked at a community clinic as a therapist treating clients with a broad spectrum of diagnoses.
I specialize in treating symptoms of depression, anxiety, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). My approach to therapy incorporates evidence-based practices such principles of Internal Family Systems therapy (parts work), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping), and meditation. I also completed Fluence’s training to become a Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration therapist. I am fluent in Western Armenian.
I guide my clients in their efforts to gain great insight into themselves and heal negative symptoms. Negative symptoms can be from many different causes, like difficulties in interpersonal or familial relationships, traumatic experiences, even struggles related to the immigrant or first-generation American experiences. As an immigrant who came to the United States as a young child, I know very well how difficult it can be to balance the challenges of fitting in while trying to preserve one’s culture.
Most importantly, my goal is to empower you with the skills and tools you need to be liberated from emotional distress, gain important insights into your behaviors, and rediscover your authentic self.
If you live in Maryland, Washington DC, or Virginia, I am licensed and in-network with Carefirst BCBS, United Healthcare and Cigna/Evernorth.
In our work together, I hope to help you find inner peace, understanding, and self-compassion.

Reviews
“She is so kind, that’s the main thing. Also she is always present. She knows her stuff with IFS! She is helpful, motivated, hard working, understanding, intuitive, generous with her time, just such a sweet, patient person.”
“Marieann's use of internal family systems works incredibly well for my needs; her methodology has really helped me to make some mental breakthroughs, and I don't think those would have been possible with other techniques. She also creates an environment that makes sharing feel effortless; she has an open energy, and shows that she truly cares in a million tiny ways.”
“She’s excellent in her approach to caring for her clients!”
“The first time I met Marieann four years ago, I asked about her treatment modality, and she broke down her areas of extensive expertise - cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and internal family systems therapy (IFS) - into very simple terms. "I like using IFS because sometimes we lose the heart and soul in therapy when it's CBT alone," she said. I had never heard a therapist talk about heart and soul before, and the moment she said it, I knew she was going to be my therapist. And such heart and soul - Marieann balances her masterful therapeutic skills with so much kindness and care, I feel no one else could have helped me heal, one session at a time. Thanks to her, I haven't walked my journey alone.”
“A therapist needs to meet their client where they are, and find ways to help them. Therapists need to be keen observers, thoughtful counselors, are careful interrogators. They must take great care to do no harm. They must advance the interests of the client. They must be prepared to be of service, and to make sacrifices for the good of those they serve. They ought to be healers rather than businesspeople. Marieann is all that and more.”
“She doesn't judge or criticize me. She is warm. She is sincere and honest in such a kind way. A lot of my therapists have been blunt, kinda harsh, kinda over it. She's really never been that way at all. She doesn't tell me to give people in my life ultimatums and she helps me examine why I have limiting beliefs.”
“She is always on time, always compassionate, gives great resources, and was overall a joy to work with.”
“Working with Marieann has helped in innumerable ways. When we began our sessions together, I was in rather poor shape mental health wise, and if I had continued on the trajectory I had been on, would have ended up in a bad place. Marieann has helped me avoid that fate, and has helped me better understand the issues that have troubled me for some time. Overall, I think she has helped me grow and navigate a challenging world.”
“She is so good at everything :) I like the IFS training, the trauma understanding, and the cultural awareness.”
Teletherapy
At this time, I am seeing clients virtually and would be excited to meet with clients all over Maryland, DC and Virginia.
